Milan was grindingly slow to get around on the Autopista. But as we turned off and headed North West to the Mont Blanc tunnel the traffic eased off and the boring flat, industry covered plains of Northern Italy were replaced with a fine road winding up the valley into the Alps.
They charged us a staggering 35 Euros to go through the tunnel but I was happy to be leaving Italy.
We did a food stop at a big supermarket then headed for a small town called Taninges near Chamonix with a camping municipal. This site was worlds apart from Lake Garda, grass and trees instead of mobile homes and dust, with views of the mountains and great facilities. The cost? Nine Euros, with electric hook up.

To make up for the last night I’d bought a leg of lamb and decided to have a go at doing it on the bbq.
It got marinated in olive oil, garlic and a Moroccan spice mix I’d bought.

Then browned on the grill.

Wrapped in three layers of foil with the marinade and a splash of Croatian beer and left on the grill for an hour.

This was the result, the best tasting lamb I’ve ever had.

The wife approved too.

All was well in the world again and we turned on the disco lights and had a dance around the van.

I like it when a plan comes together.
